Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, Barrages, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, and railways.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering of BAUET deals with the Civil Engineering program. The department started its journey in January 2015. The B.Sc. Engineering courses in Civil Engineering shall be offered over a period of four academic years, each of normal duration of one calendar year. The four academic years shall be designated as 1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year, and 4th Year in succeeding higher levels of study. The academic year will be divided into two Semesters (1st Semester and 2nd Semester) each. There are two intakes admitted in one academic year. One is named the summer semester and another is the fall semester. The department provides an enriched laboratory facility with a total of 6 nos. of the well-equipped laboratory. To ensure the quality of teaching the department conducts its classes by qualified faculty members.

The Department of Civil Engineering comprises five major divisions: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The divisions offer basic and advanced optional courses in the above disciplines. Research on the above fields is extremely important in the national context. These include areas like the behavior of available building and road materials with emphasis on indigenous materials, engineering soil properties of various regions of the country, low-cost cyclone-resistant housing, seismic zoning of Bangladesh, waste management, environmental pollution control, environmental impact assessment, traffic simulation, transport system modeling, traffic safety studies, etc.
