The apparel sector in Bangladesh is a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing and expert oriented industry. More than 50 lac workers, 80% of whom are women, are employed in this sector. This apparel part alone having more than 5000 units of industry export worth $21.5 billion which is 79% of the total export earning of our country in a year. More than 100 countries are now using “made in Bangladesh” knit garments and woven products. In a nutshell, this garments sector is an ever-growing and most prospective industry of Bangladesh now. This sector requires huge men power as Industrial Engineers (IE) in addition to the average garments workers with the technical know how to provide technical leadership to the industries. At present IE personnel from foreign countries (India, Srilanka etc) are fulfilling the requirements.
BAUET has decided to start Apparel Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to provide such industrial engineers to our country and abroad at present and in the long run to provide highly educated men power with the necessary technical know how to the industrial sector at home and abroad, side by side, to patronize research, development and innovation in this sector. Garment industry is thriving which will create lot of job vacancies with attractive salary packages for the young & midlevel Engineers.
